Sometimes, it may be necessary to set up a user with a ‘fake’ email address that is not actually able to receive emails. The typical use case is an account for a particular line, which is shared among the people working there.

Creating the user

To set up the user (requires Administration privileges):

  1. Go to Administration → Users
  2. Create a new user. Use an email address you have access to, and which has not been used in Blackbird yet (if your usual email is already in use, you can use plus-addressing. For example, “[email protected]”)
  3. Assign the new user to the access groups you want.
  4. Log out of your current user account.
  5. Check your inbox for a Welcome email. Click the link in the email and set a password for the new user.
  6. Log back in to your normal user account.
  7. Go to Administration → Users. Find the new user in the list. Change the email of the user to the ‘fake’ email you want (e.g. [email protected])

Reset password of the user

If you forget the password for the user with the ‘fake’ email, you can do the following

  1. Go to Administration → Users. Find the user and change the email address to an email you have access to (e.g. “[email protected]”)
  2. Click “Reset password” on the user.
  3. Log out of your current account
  4. Check your inbox for a ‘Reset password’ email. Click the link and set a new password for the user.
  5. Log back in to your normal user account.
  6. Go to Administration → Users. Find the new user in the list. Change the email back to what is was before.
